Why Bespoke Agricultural Wheels Matter
Generic wheels rarely match the hub pattern, centre bore, offset or load rating of real machines. The result can be sheared studs, brake or fender clashes, uneven tyre wear and costly downtime. Bespoke agricultural wheels solve this by delivering exact hub geometry, the right offset and dish, and guaranteed clearances.
The right wheel and tyre package improves traction and flotation, protects soil structure, and safely carries heavy implements at field and road speeds. With over 60 years’ engineering experience, Fieldens OTR Ltd builds long‑lasting wheels for agriculture, construction and industry. See typical use cases on our agricultural wheels page, and how we design from first principles on our bespoke wheels service.
Step 1 – On‑Site Hub Measurement and Vehicle Audit
We record precise hub data (PCD/bolt circle, centre bore and pilot type, stud size/pitch and pattern, dish/offset/backspacing) and check brake, fender and steering clearances. We confirm axle ratings and target track width. Tyre details are captured: size, load/speed rating (including IF/VF), duty cycle and any ballast.
Accurate data prevents runout, sheared studs and brake rub. To plan your project, read how to choose the right agricultural wheels, and gather your agricultural tyre details before we visit.

- Work type (sprayer, slurry, trailer, loader) and peak loads/speeds
- Target track width or implement constraints
Step 2 – Application Analysis and Tyre Selection
Load, speed and duty define the tyre–rim pairing. We size to the highest axle load and maximum transport speed, then choose tread and carcass with partners such as Michelin, BKT and ATG. IF/VF carcasses carry the same load at lower pressure, which influences rim contour and inflation choices.
Examples: a slurry tanker needs wide flotation to cut compaction; a self‑propelled sprayer needs narrow, stable row widths. See our rowcrop options for crop clearance. We then specify rim profile, dish and offset to hit the required track while maintaining safe clearances.

Step 3 – CAD Modelling and Engineering Verification
We model rim and centre in 3D CAD, locking in bolt circle, centre bore, pilot style and stud engagement. Tolerances are set for true running and repeatable fit.
Thickness, dish profile and weld preparation are verified against load and shock inputs, with stress checks where needed. Offsets are optimised for singles, twins or implement spacing so tyres clear fenders, brakes and steering stops and the target track width is achieved.
Step 4 – Material Selection and Rim Architecture
We match steel grade and thickness to the load spectrum, commonly S355 plate and rolled sections for agricultural and industrial service. Rim profiles (e.g. DW/W) are selected for the tyre, with centre discs, rings and gussets engineered for strength and serviceability.
Telehandler and dumper duties drive thicker centres, larger weld lands and reinforcement to handle shock, side load and tight turns. Consistent plate quality and traceable supply support reliable welds and a stable base for coating.
Step 5 – Coded Welding and Non‑Destructive Testing
Welding follows qualified WPS/PQR and is carried out by coded welders to BS EN ISO 9606. Joint preparation, heat input and sequence are controlled to minimise distortion and maximise strength.
We use magnetic particle or dye penetrant testing for surface defects, and ultrasonic checks where required. Before paint, every wheel is inspected for runout, concentricity and hub fit so it mounts squarely and runs true under load.
Step 6 – Surface Prep, Coating and Corrosion Defence
Wheels are shot‑blasted, epoxy‑primed and top‑coated in durable finishes, colour‑matched to OEM where needed. Edge protection and cavity coverage resist slurry, fertiliser and road salt.
For puncture‑proof uptime we offer Fieldens Polycoat Tyrefill. It eliminates flats, adds stability and keeps machines working in thorny or debris‑strewn sites. Ideal for industrial, construction and selected farm roles where downtime is costly.

Step 7 – Assembly, Inflation and Precision Fitment
Tyres are mounted with the correct lubricants. Wheel nuts are torqued in sequence, with a re‑torque policy after initial hours. Valves and extensions are specified for the application.
Inflation pressures follow ETRTO for the stated load and speed and are recorded cold. TPMS can be added for fleet monitoring. Documentation supplied with each set details torque values, pressures and any re‑torque and pressure‑check intervals.
ISO 9001 Quality, Traceability and Certification
Fieldens OTR Ltd operates within an ISO 9001 framework. Stage‑gate checks run from goods‑in to final inspection and sign‑off. Every wheel carries records for heat numbers, weld maps, paint batches and serial numbers.
You receive a documentation pack covering materials, inspection results and conformity to ETRTO and OEM clearances. This traceability supports maintenance, audits and future replacements or matching sets.
Proven Configurations for Agriculture, Construction and Industry
- Agriculture – rowcrop: narrow sets for sprayers (e.g. 270/95R48 or 320/90R54) with offsets to match tramlines and maintain stability.
- Agriculture – flotation: wide options for tankers and trailers (e.g. 560/60R22.5, 600/55R26.5) on reinforced DW rims to reduce compaction.
- Construction/industrial: telehandler wheels with heavy‑duty centres for 400/80‑24 or 500/70‑24 tyres, built for side loads and kerb strikes.
- Turf and groundcare: low ground pressure assemblies that protect fine surfaces while carrying mowers and utility vehicles.
Lead Times, Delivery and UK On‑Site Fitting
Typical builds run from a few weeks for standard patterns to longer for complex centres or twin sets. Urgent jobs can sometimes be expedited.
We deliver nationwide and offer on‑farm and on‑site installation. Aftercare includes torque checks, pressure audits and spares support. Packaging protects coatings in transit so wheels are ready to fit on arrival.
FAQs and Common Pitfalls to Avoid
Don’t guess offsets. A few millimetres can overload studs or cause caliper/fender contact under articulation. Measure and model clearances.
Match ballast to duty. Liquid ballast suits slow, soft‑ground work. Tyrefill suits puncture risk, load stability and maximum uptime.
Assess tyres honestly. Retreading can work on suitable casings and duties, but inspect age, damage and heat history. Replace tyres that are cracked, cord‑exposed, under‑spec for load/speed or repeatedly losing pressure.

FAQs
How long does an on‑site hub measurement take?
Most machines are measured in 30–90 minutes, depending on access and complexity. We work around your schedule to minimise downtime.
Can you match my OEM wheel colour and track width?
Yes. We colour‑match common OEM finishes and design offsets to hit your target track width while keeping clearances safe.
Do you supply tyres and Tyrefill with the wheels?
Yes. We can deliver complete wheel and tyre assemblies, and pre‑fill with Tyrefill where the duty benefits from puncture protection and stability.
What aftercare is required once fitted?
Re‑torque after initial hours, then at service intervals. Check pressures cold for the stated load and speed, and inspect valves and nuts visually.
Are ISO 9001 and inspection records provided?
Yes. Each set ships with traceable records covering materials, welds, coating and final inspection, plus conformity to relevant standards.
Can you support twin wheel or special implement setups?
Yes. We design for twins and specific implements, modelling offsets and clearances so the package fits and runs true.
